The Wellington green gecko are found in the southern half of the North Island of New Zealand.

The green gecko is one of the largest of several endemic green gecko species. They have distinctive yellow soles on their feet and the inside of their mouths is a vivid blue.

Wellington Green Geckos are arboreal and diurnal, both passively and actively hunting for their invertebrate prey across foilage.

These geckos can often be found basking in the sun. They have a prehensile tail which they are able to use as an extra limb.

Their numbers are in decline due to habitat destruction and predation from introduced mammals.
